TROUT FISHING IN JUNE

June trout fishing is normally very enjoyable in Pa. No fishermen, and plenty of trout to be caught. This year was the exception. No fisherman but, not many trout. Temperatures were extremely hot for this time of the year and the humidity was atrocious.

To top it off, we were inundated with friendly flies. (so called by the pa. game commission)

It seems there was a population explosion of these pests due to the infestation of the Forest Tent Caterpillar in the great white north of Pa.

Fishing was very slow. Between the 3 of us, we caught a grand total of 8 trout. We awoke at 5a.m. Saturday morning and I did not snag my limit 5th trout until 7:08 p.m. The heat, humidity, and bugs were almost unbearable.

No matter what, a day in the outdoors is still better then being anywhere else.

TIME TO CHILL

It was nice to get back to camp to relax, and try to cool down. The Friendly flies were still annoying, but we ,somewhat, got used to them.

(is that Joe with a coke?)

I think he made a mistake while reaching for Tecate.

SUPPER TIME!!

I was even impressed with the tastes of Saturdays Supper.

1 and a 1/4+ in. T-bones, portabella mushrooms, asparagus, garden onions, baked potatoes w/chives and butter, and ice cold beer.

I think I finally have my steak preparation fined tuned.

I season the steaks with my favorite steak dust, and skillet fry them at 400 degrees with butter, 5 minutes per side.

I then place them in a preheated 400 degree oven for 5 minutes and let them rest for another 5 minutes.

They come out at a juicy medium rare to medium.

TIME TO EAT

The steaks came out perfectly, medium to medium rare. It was a rather heavy meal for such a hot and humid day, but there were no complaints. We ended up eating in the living room because the kitchen and dining room were outrageously hot.

We kept the fans running at full speed, and made sure the beer was ice cold.

After all this, we did manage to go out for an evening fish.

Joe K. Joe M. and myself arrived at camp late Thursday evening to cloudy skies, followed by severe thunder storms, and heavy rain. It was not a good start to our weekend.

Expectation were not running high when we woke up to high and murky waters for our trout fishing weekend.

We took a ride early Friday morning to find our favorite streams to be unfishable.

We ended up fishing below a flood control dam that has a fairly stable water flow.

The trout fishing was slow, but I did manage to catch a limit.

Surprisingly, the next morning, our favorite steams were running high but clearing.

Fishing picked up as the weekend progressed and it turned out to be a great weekend with friends, fish and food.
